DURING AMERICAN HEART MONTH, HERE’S SOME SURPRISING NEWS ABOUT THE VALUE OF LAB-BASED WORKPLACE TESTING.
ANNOUNCER:
HEART DISEASE IS THE TOP CAUSE OF DEATH IN THE U-S. IN A RECENT NATIONWIDE STUDY BY QUEST DIAGNOSTICS, THE GLOBAL LEADER IN DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, ALMOST ONE-THIRD OF FIRST-TIME PARTICIPANTS IN LABORATORY-BASED WORKPLACE WELLNESS PROGRAMS LEARNED THEY WERE AT SERIOUS RISK FOR TWO CHRONIC CONDITIONS LINKED TO HEART DISEASE. DOCTOR HARVEY KAUFMAN OF QUEST DIAGNOSTICS SAYS THAT THIS KNOWLEDGE CAN BE POWERFUL.
DR. HARVEY KAUFMAN:
“The study’s results showed that many participants were not previously aware of their risk for diseases that directly impact heart health. In fact, 59 percent of those found to be at high risk for high cholesterol and 28 percent of those at high risk for diabetes first learned of their health risk through their lab results. The good news is that these conditions can often be slowed or reversed with certain lifestyle changes. Consider taking advantage of lab-based health screenings offered through your employer. If you understand your lab results, you’re more likely to take action.”
