ANNOUNCER:
WINTER HOLIDAYS CAN BE STRESSFUL, BUT A SURVEY, COMMISSIONED BY THE NATIONAL COUNCIL ON AGING AND HUMANA, SUGGESTS THAT FAMILY REUNIONS MAY BE GOOD FOR THE HEALTH OF SENIOR CITIZENS.
THE STUDY FOUND THAT NEARLY 90 PERCENT OF SENIORS FEEL REVITALIZED AND WANT TO STAY ACTIVE WHEN THEY SPEND TIME WITH FAMILIES.
MISSISSIPPI NATIVE AND GREAT AMERICAN COUNTRY-TV HOST NAN KELLEY TELLS US WHY IT’S IMPORTANT TO INCLUDE OUR ELDERS IN FAMILY GATHERINGS.
NAN KELLEY:
“I’m from the South and family comes first, but I understand the problem because reunions are a lot of work for the adult children hosting them. But they are very important for young and old alike. Humana and the National Council On Aging survey of 1,001 people ages 64 to 74 found that 43 percent of them are worried that the younger generations won’t continue their family’s traditions, and that’s sad. In fact, according to the study the three most popular ways that boomers and seniors create family legacy are compiling pictures, sharing recipes and telling stories.”
