New Year's Eve Celebration Ideas: Low on Cost, High on Fun

December 29th, 2010- Are you hoping for a fiscally responsible sort of celebration to ring in 2011?  The typical expensive New Year’s Eve party – dinner, dancing, open bar – is giving way to a much simpler and more fun diversion this year!  But even the costs of hosting a party at home can begin to add up.

New Year’s Eve is all about good times together with friends, but finding fun and inexpensive ways to do this don't always go hand in hand.  Lifestyle expert Alison Deyette has some really easy ideas that are high on fun and low on cost such as:

  • Stay in and invite your friends over. Keep it simple. Host a game night. This creates a fun environment that everyone can partake in. All you need are a few fun games. Some of my favorites are Cranium, Scattegories or find out who's the real artist in the group with a classic like Pictionary.
  • Step out of the kitchen. You've probably been baking/cooking throughout the holidays. So forget about the big feast, don't serve dinner. Have friends come over later for hot and cold appertizers and dessert or maybe ask everyone to bring their favorite dish.'
  • Can't find a babysitter on New Years Eve, bring the kids. To ensure that everyone has fun, designate a seperate room just for the kids. Make sure they have plenty of comfy blankets, pillows, movies, some age appropriate games and of course yummy snacks to keep them busy; ensuring everyone has a great time!
  • If you really want to go out on New Years Eve do an activity. Whether it's ice skating, bowling or something else, these are great ways to get everyone out, active and engaged without breaking the bank.
