Just In Time for Back-to-School Dance Sensation Shawn Johnson Offers Insights About How She Reached Her Full Potential and How Parents Nationwide Can Encourage Their Kids To Do The Same

At the young age of 16, Shawn Johnson won gold. Less than a year later, she was crowned a national dance sensation when she took home the highly-sought-after mirror ball trophy. So what is the secret to her success? Whether she’s on the gymnastics floor or showing off her latest dance moves, Shawn notes that it was the encouragement from her parents and mentors that made the biggest difference in her life. That, with positive reinforcement, hard work and determination, was key to achieving her goals.
Just in time for back-to-school Shawn is partnering with Oscar Mayer Lunchables to inspire parents to give their kids the same support she received through the Lunchables Lunch Note Promise Campaign.
The campaign is all about giving kids what they need to do their best – a little encouragement. She is asking parents nationwide to promise that they will drop a note of encouragement in their child’s lunch (and make that promise at lunchnotepromise.com ). For every mom that goes online to make this promise, a meal will be donated to a child in need. Together, they hope to turn one little note into a world of difference, with a goal of donating 100,000 meals to Feeding America.
At the Olympic Games in Beijing, China, Shawn Johnson earned an individual gold medal and three silver medals, including a team silver. Subsequently, she competed on Dancing with the Stars and took home the top prize. Shawn Johnson has appeared on various news programs and television shows including the Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, the Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Today Show.
