The American Heart Association launched a national education campaign last year called Face the Fats aimed at helping consumers understand the different types of dietary fats so they can make heart-healthy food choices. Among the campaign's top priorities is to encourage replacement of trans and saturated fat with oils high in unsaturated fats — monounsaturated and polyunsaturated.
To help people fully understand fats, the organization is introducing animated characters known as the Better Fats Sisters, Mon and Poly. Mon and Poly come to life, literally and figuratively, to personify the actual better fats. These “heart helpers” give consumers a new way to look at and remember which fats are bad, which fats are better and where they can be found.
The two sisters are a fun loving but practical pair, unlike their brothers, Sat and Trans. They like to have a good time, but have a respect for limits. While the brothers are often working to out-do or out-charm the other, the sisters complement each other, working together as a team. Their goal is to teach people the better fats to choose when making daily eating choices.
We want your listeners to be successful in their pursuit of a heart-healthy diet – so help us encourage them to develop a game plan that’s reasonable and has attainable goals by airing the enclosed PSA. Going from “bad” to “better” can be done – it just takes one smart choice after another. For more information, please visit americanheart.org/facethefats.
