May 10, 2011

ANNOUNCER:

The United States Mint TRAVELED TO ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI TO LAUNCH THE second of four coins this year IN the Presidential one dollar Coin Program. The eighteenth coin in the series honors Ulysses S. Grant, our nation’s eighteenth president.  the date of the coins release, may 19, marked the anniversary of general grant’s SUCCESSFUL campaign in 1863 to take the Confederate stronghold at Vicksburg, Mississippi.  jana prewitt is spokesperson for the united states mint.

 JANA PREWITT:

“The United States Mint is connecting Americans through coins to Ulysses S. Grant, the Northern General who defeated Robert E. Lee’s Confederate Army in the Civil War.  Grant brought his own Army staff to the White House and ran the Federal government a lot like he ran the Army.  He served two terms as President and before he died in 1885, he wrote a best seller, still thought to be one of the finest military autobiographies ever written.”
