Nymox NX-1207
April 8, 2011 - Recent findings in clinical trials of a novel medication for enlarged prostate show that five years after a single injection of the drug, more than 50 percent of patients did not require any further treatment.
NX-1207, a novel drug designed by Nymox Pharmaceutical to reduce prostate enlargement and improve urination, is now being evaluated in phase three clinical trials, the last step before filing for FDA approval.
Barrett Cowan, MD, of Urology Associates in Denver, Colorado, and a Principal Investigator in the trial said, “It could mean that patients don’t have to take medication on a daily basis. It means they don’t have to go to the operating room for surgery where there’s risks involved. And it means they can have a significant improvement in their quality of life and not have difficulties associated with urinary problems.”
Dr. Mitchell Efros of Accumed Research Associates in Garden City, New York, also a Principal Investigator, said that NX-1207 “is easy to administer, well tolerated by the patient, and can be used as a first line or second line therapy in patients who have these symptoms. We have noticed significant and rapid improvement in men with lower urinary tract symptoms”.
NX-1207 has successfully completed a series of blinded controlled multi-center U.S. clinical trials where a single dose of NX-1207 has been found to produce symptomatic improvements about double that reported for currently approved BPH drugs, without causing the sexual or cardiovascular side effects associated with those drugs.
More than 50 percent of men 60 or older have an enlarged prostate, or BPH, causing frequent and difficult urination, interruption of daily activities and sleep deprivation.
