The Humane Society of the United States’ Puppy Mill Action Week Features Ads by Colbie Caillat
May 5th, 2011 -- The Humane Society of the United States has announced that its fifth annual Puppy Mill Action Week will be held the week preceding Mother’s Day this year to draw attention to the plight of mother dogs at puppy mills. Multi-Grammy winning singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat is the voice of The HSUS’s Puppy Mill campaign, and is calling on everyone who cares about dogs to help end the cruelty at puppy mills.
"Too many people don't realize that when they buy a puppy from a pet store or over the Internet, they are most likely condemning the mother of that puppy to a life of misery in a puppy mill. I wanted to work with The Humane Society of the United States to help educate consumers across the country,” said Caillat. “I urge everyone, especially my fans, to visit a reputable breeder in person, or better yet, adopt their next pet from an animal shelter. Together we can stop this abusive industry.”
The HSUS is also asking people to pledge not to shop at pet stores or Internet sites that sell puppies, and to take other simple actions to raise awareness and support the campaign. There will be a daily action tip on the HSUS website.
To help spread the word, Caillat recorded three radio ads and public service announcements. For the radio spots, Caillat and her record label donated use of her song, “Make it Rain,” which is featured on her album, “All of You,” set for release this July. She is also speaking out about puppy mills in television and radio interviews during the week.
