January 30, 2011 - Heart disease is still the number one killer of women, taking the life of 1 in 3 women each year. This means women - mothers, sisters, friends - are dying at the rate of one per minute because they don’t know what you know: heart disease kills.
Ninety percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease but eighty percent of cardiac events in women can be prevented if they make the right choices for their hearts, involving diet, exercise and abstinence from smoking.
The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women® is a movement dedicated to helping women fight heart disease, turning simple daily choices into life-saving actions.
Go Red For Women’s new message is “Make It Your Mission” and “Tell 5”. Among the movement's top priorities is to raise awareness of the impact of heart disease on women. This year, women are encouraged to make it their mission to stop this number one killer by telling five women they love about the impact of heart disease. The idea is that you can truly save lives with the power of your very own voice.
To help accomplish that, Go Red For Women has developed public service announcements featuring actress and Go Red For Women spokesperson, Betty White. White joined the Go Red For Women movement because she is passionate about educating other women about heart disease.
The 30 second TV PSA, “Tell 5,” featuring Betty White and friends is included in this package. Also included is the PSA “Speak Up,” featuring Go Red For Women spokesperson Jennie Garth and the :30 and :25 PSA “Real Women” featuring real women who have been personally touched by heart disease and are speaking up to save lives.
Many viewers are among the 41 million American women now living with cardiovascular disease. We know you join us in wanting them to be successful in their pursuit of heart health. For more information, please visit GoRedForWomen.org.
