November 23, 2010- As thousands prepared for the Black Friday retail battle hoping to find that perfect gift for a steal, the largest consumer electronics retailer braced for the blitz. Best Buy President Mike Vitelli talked about the hottest products, how the retail season is shaping up and how Best Buy is poised to blow this one out of the water. Technology is expected to be the gift this year with consumers asking Santa for:
· Smart, 3D and Internet Connected TV’s (Google TV)
· Tablet Computing (iPads) & eReaders (Nook, Kindle)
· Motion Controlled Gaming (Kinect, Playstation Move,)
· Mobile (Android X, iPhone 4)
Vitelli also discussed new study findings showing consumers encouraged by the experience technology provides, but frustrated with its complexity. The survey shows more than half of consumers polled say getting technology set up was the hardest part about buying new technology.
In addition:
o 56% of consumers don’t feel they get the most out of the technology products they own; 65%of those 55+
o Consumers say on average they use only 30% of a device’s capabilities
o 61% have a hard time keeping up with technology changes; 79% of those ages 55+
o 54% of consumers want to be able to connect with people from ANY device
