Mickey Mouse Spotted on Beach in Hawaii – Aloha!

Time to Add the magic to Aulani

New Disney Resort Reaches Milestone as
Construction Company Turns Over Keys

KO OLINA, HAWAII April 21, 2011-  It’s time to add the magic to Aulani, the new Disney Resort in Hawaii.  Today, more than 100 people celebrated the moment when the construction company turned over the keys to the first-of-its-kind Disney destination resort in Ko Olina, Hawaii.  Turning over the keys means the main structural work has been done . . . now it’s time for Disney to add its magical touches with landscaping, detailing and all of the magic guests expect at a Disney resort.

In celebration of the moment, workers from Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company, Inc. presented Disney Cast Members (employees) with traditional lei.  In turn, of course, Cast Members said thank you by presenting the world famous Mickey Mouse ears to the construction workers.

Following the exchange, the two groups joined together to form a silhouette of the famous mouse on the beach just outside the new resort.  Mickey, Minnie and their Disney pals joined in the celebration.

Aulani is scheduled to open to its first guests on Aug. 29, 2011.  It is a “first-of-its-kind” because it’s the first time Disney has built a Hotel and Vacation Club property away from its theme parks.

Built on 21 beachside acres, Walt Disney Imagineers have focused on Disney storytelling and Hawaiian traditions and culture while creating Aulani.  It will feature more than 350 hotel rooms and nearly 500 two-bedroom villas, two restaurants, 18,000-square-foot spa, a wedding lawn and conference center.  Guests will also be treated to extensive water activities such as a 900-foot floating watercourse, waterslides, sunset-facing hot tubs, a snorkel lagoon and conservation pool.  There will also be a signature kids’ club – Aunty’s Beach House – where kids can explore Hawaiian culture through fun and games, arts and crafts, and many other experiences created just for them.
